SINGAPORE, 9 April 2021 - Despite football matches currently being only played behind closed doors and many of us eagerly waiting for a full return to stadiums, Quorn Foods and Liverpool Football Club are urging fans in Singapore to support a very important cause.
As we currently face a pivotal moment for our planet, Quorn Foods, Liverpool FC’s Official Sustainable Protein Partner and the reigning Premier League champions are asking fans to go meat-free on match days in a bid to lower their carbon footprint and Help The Planet, One Match at a Time with their ‘Meat-free Matchdays’.
To celebrate this partnership and the launch of the ‘Meat-free Matchdays’ movement in Singapore, Quorn and LFC will be organising an exclusive pre-match trivia event on Saturday, 1 May 2021 for fans from Singapore’s Official Liverpool FC Supporters Clubs (OLSCs) to virtually meet LFC Legend José Enrique as they gear up for the exciting Liverpool FC v Manchester United match later that evening. Additionally, 30 lucky members of the public will also get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of this exciting evening by leaving a like, comment and tag of two friends on this Facebook post on Quorn Singapore’s Facebook page and by filling out this Google form.
Matt Scammell, Commercial Director Liverpool FC, said: “As the leading provider of sustainable meat-free products in the UK, we’re delighted to be working with Quorn to encourage fans to choose more sustainable food alternatives on matchdays to help make a real difference to the world we live in. “With the launch of our The Red Way sustainability initiative, now is a great time for our fans, employees and playing staff to make positive contributions to sustainability while at the same time considering their health and wellbeing. We’re excited to be part of this journey and to help support our fans along the way as they try to go meat-free on matchdays.”
“Quorn has always believed that a small change can make a big difference - with every meal, every plate, every bite all adding up. We are proud to work with Liverpool Football Club which shares the same vision of doing good for our planet and share the positive impact Quorn mycoprotein has on elite sports performers,” shared Monique Suryokusomo, Vice President of Marketing, Monde Nissin Asia. “With this partnership, we hope to ignite the ‘Meat-free Matchdays’ movement locally as well and encourage fans in Singapore to come together in a collective effort to make more sustainable, healthy and tasty food choices, one match at a time.”
For just one home game, if the capacity of Anfield (around 54,000 fans) swapped to Quorn Mince rather than typical beef mince, a massive 103,129kg of CO2e would be saved, which is the equivalent of: taking 60 cars off our roads OR charging your phone for 201,739 years*. Additionally, for every Liverpool FC home game match in the Premier League season, the capacity of Anfield going meat-free with Quorn Mince would save an incredible 1,959,455kg of CO2e, which in turn equates to: taking 1,136 cars off the road OR charging your phone for 3,833,041 years!
